Somatic Therapy and Seawork

Cory is a registered Psychologist. In addition to traditional psychological methods, Cory has extensive training and expertise in Somatic Psychology. Somatic Psychology evaluates, uncovers, and heals emotional difficulties by working with body, breath, sound, and movement.  The principle behind Somatic Psychology is that painful experience is stored in the body in the form of tissue contraction, and that by directly working with such contraction, deep traumatic difficulties can be resolved quickly.  Cory does two forms of Somatic Psychology. The first is Bioenergetic Therapy, developed by Dr. Alexander Lowen. With Institutes and practitioners all over the world, Bioenergetics is a well known and highly regarded form of Somatic Psychology.
In addition to Bioenergetic Therapy, Cory has developed a somatic approach of his own called Seawork.  Like traditional healing disciplines such as Tai Chi, Seawork is taught in the context of a student-teacher relationship and practiced daily by the student.
Life trauma has formed an imprint of tissue contraction deep in the bodies of many people today. This “Freeze” or “Trauma Anatomy” is what is discovered and embraced by evolving awareness in (and as) the Seawork process. The depth of healing that occurs is profound and measured by literal transformation in the tissue of the body.  This transformation is the “thawing” of frozen, or profoundly contracted, tissue. This tissue de-contraction is accompanied by revelations and rewards in all areas of life.  Cory has written a book about this process entitled Seawork, Healing by Cellular Embrace.
